Outsourcing

Outsourcing is when a company or organization works outside in country to work in a foreign country to purchase goods or subcontract services from an outside supplier or source. If that definition confused you like it did me, then this one will help you understand better. Outsourcing means to contract out jobs or  services, etc. For example: A small business that outsources fast foods to an accounting firm.

There’re many small and big companies that outsource their low end as well as high end services to off-shore destinations like India, China, Philippines, Russia etc. Few companies outsource, such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, Prudential, Hewlett Packard, ATT Wireless, TransUnion, First Consulting Group (FCG), Dell Computer Support, Bell South, EDS, GE Capital, GE, IBM, Schlumberger, Qwest and Rand McNally.

In social class we had also watched this series made by the same guy that did ” Super Size Me” Morgan Spurlock. This series is called ‘30 days’. Though I’ve seen Super ‘Size Me’ at school a billion times whether it was in school or at home, I’ve never heard of this show till Alger showed us.The episode that we were watching in Social, was about a man who was a computer technician guy that had lost his job due to outsourcing in India. So Morgan Spurlock convinced the man to travel to India and experience the life of his former job in an outsourced country for 30 days. He did go to India and had lived in a family of outsourced workers which they had gave him details on the perspective of being a technician in America compared to India. This was surprising because in America being a computer technician isn’t something to be proud of because it is listed as one of the lowest jobs, but in India they have people that’re proud and willing to get the job. This film it gave me a little more to think about how people are being affected by outsourcing. The man that lost his job only wanted to live the same life as his parents, but after losing his job he doubts it. This world was meant for people to enjoy life and have a better life than their parents but due to companies wanting to spend less and more profit, people are losing their jobs.
